Within our business, professional removers will always have a storage facility, after all, if for some reason you didn't get your keys on the agreed date where would we put your belongings in the interim. Clients have more disputes with agreed key hand-over times than almost any other house moving issue.
The majority of moving companies have realised the importance of having a bona fide storage premise and developed it to the needs of clients.
Types of facilities
Conventional
Forty years ago the only storage available was, what the industry call, conventional. This was where once your belonging were taken to the storage facility they were stacked into, as best possible, a cube and a white sheet thrown over to protect from dust. Any person had access to all the clients within that facility with the obvious security implications. We don't know of any professional remover who still use this system.
